Autobrake Control Switch

Autobrake Control Switch

Challenge

To create a control switch for an aircraft automatic braking system designed to activate on touchdown. The braking system determines the amount of braking pressure necessary to enable the aircraft to stop in a given distance or runway length without the tires skidding.

Solution

The result is a specially designed "A" Series Rotary Switch with a solenoid "hold in" latching circuit. A 1 Amp inductive load circuit automatically activates the solenoid as the switch is manually rotated to the desired position. The selected position determines the desired braking pressure for a specific runway length. Three lower current decks provide signals to the braking system. This brake control switch is housed in an integrated module assembly. The switch incorporates a momentary spring return feature and an isolation push-to-turn feature. Optional components of this LRUcan include an illuminated panel and knob.

Data Load Switch

Data Load Switch

Challenge

Design a switch to manage the avionics data load function. The switch enables radio download configurations. The switch is a multi-function, multiple pole configuration.

Solution

The result is a combination of Janco's proven rotary switching mechanisms in a rugged, machined, aluminum housing. The assembly includes a robust integrated mounting plate. The assembly connects quickly through integrated rear connectors and fastens easily and quickly to the aircraft rail system. This solution easily enables the download of various radio download configurations.

Engine Fire Shut Off

Engine Fire Shut-Off Switch

Challenge

Design a multi-function switch module, which when activated will shut off fuel supply to a specific aircraft engine and activate the fire extinguishing system. This module must incorporate numerous safety features to avoid accidental activation.

Solution

The result is a combination of Janco's proven rotary switching mechanisms in a rugged, LRU module assembly. The fuel flow to the engine is shut off by pulling the shaft to the "out" position actuating a 10 pole snap action "A" Series Rotary Switch. A solenoid operated safety mechanism must be energized or the manual override button pushed before the shaft can be activated. The fire extinguishing material is then released by rotating the shaft and actuating a 2 pole momentary "C" Series Rotary Switch. The switch handle incorporates a hidden legend which is only legible when the 4 incandescent handle lamps are illuminated.

Folding Wing Tip

Folding Wing Tip Switch

Challenge

Design a switch to control the folding and unfolding of a large wing in order to provide greater wing lift capability and less drag to an aircraft and still providing compatibility for aircraft at every airport. The switch should provide safety features to insure that unwanted operation does not take place. The switch should also provide a means of automatic release.

Solution

The result is a specially designed Janco "A" Series Rotary Switch with a solenoid "hold in" latching circuit. The switch design incorporates a mechanical isolation feature. A 1 Amp inductive load circuit automatically activates the solenoid to obtain the desired position of the folding wing, “fold and extend”.  The switch is designed with an automatic spring return mechanism when commanded by the system, forces the switch back to fold position.

Fuel Tank Switch

Fuel Tank Control Switch

Challenge

Design a switch to control the switching of fuel from one fuel tank to another. The switch shall also prevent unwanted switching of fuel tanks or shutting off fuel completely. All switching to take place from the safety of the cabin in an armored ground vehicle. The switch shall have robust electrical switching characteristics to interface directly with solenoid pump equipment. The switch shall also be able to withstand stringent wash down process.

Solution

The result is a combination of Janco's proven rotary switching mechanisms in a rugged, plug-in module assembly which includes a robust mounting plate. The assembly connects quickly through an integrated rear connector and fastens easily and quickly to the vehicle rail system. This solution allows for the remote switching of fuel from one fuel tank to another from the safety of the cabin.

Park Brake Switch

Park Brake Switch

Challenge

To create a suitable switch to replace the park brake handle mechanism on the aircraft. This switch must incorporate safety features to avoid accidental activation. It shall provide an isolated pull to turn mechanism to insure that unwanted actuation does not occur. This switch must also be robust enough to provide sufficient loads capability.

Solution

The result is a combination of Janco's proven rotary switching mechanisms and a heavy duty bushing in a rugged, plug-in module assembly which includes a light plate. The assembly connects quickly through an integrated rear connector and fastens easily and quickly to the Dzus rail system. This solution allows for the removal of the cumbersome cable mechanism by providing an electrical contact solution.
